Environmental DNA (eDNA) Survey

Advanced DNA sequencing identifies tiny biological fragments with high taxonomic precision. By supplementing standard survey methods, this technology excels at uncovering rare or threatened species that are difficult to find through observation alone.

About Environmental DNA (eDNA)

Environmental DNA (eDNA) is an emerging technique in ecology for surveying flora and fauna which utilises DNA fragments organisms shed into their surroundings. Modern DNA sequencing enables even very small fragments to be identified to genus or species level. This approach is particularly valuable for supplementing traditional survey techniques, and can detect rare, elusive or threatened species. While eDNA cannot replace traditional ecological survey methods, it is an effective tool for species indication and survey prioritisation, helping to focus effort where it is most needed. Rapid growth in eDNA-based sampling and monitoring have made eDNA surveys more accessible, affordable, and straightforward than ever before, enabling us to offer this innovative technique as a practical, cost-effective service. In partnership with WilderLab, Lodge Environmental is able to provide eDNA sample collection and assessment.
